Medical-grade titanium.
Three depths. One alloy.
Every Aquapierced rostral stud is machined from Ti-6Al-4V, the same alloy used in orthopedic implants, and rated 99.7% biocompatible under our internal Cetacean Clinical Compatibility Index.
The Mariana
Our flagship product. Designed for open-ocean bottlenose and pelagic spinner dolphins operating between 200m and 1,000m cruising depths. Mirror-polished finish maximizes laminar attachment and minimizes acoustic reflection back into the melon.
| Alloy | Ti-6Al-4V (medical grade) |
|---|---|
| Diameter | 3.0 mm |
| Mass | 0.3 g |
| Depth Rating | 1,200 m |
| Finish | Mirror-polished |
The Reef
Tuned for tight-radius maneuvers in coral channels and lagoon systems. Slightly smaller profile reduces rotational inertia around the rostrum and permits higher-frequency echolocation tracking of fast-moving prey such as parrotfish and juvenile barracuda.
| Alloy | Ti-6Al-4V (medical grade) |
|---|---|
| Diameter | 2.4 mm |
| Mass | 0.22 g |
| Depth Rating | 150 m |
| Finish | Satin brushed |
The Abyssal
Our deepest-capable stud, co-developed with sperm whale researchers. Matte PVD coating suppresses bioluminescent reflection in the aphotic zone, making it nearly invisible to prey while retaining full hydrodynamic benefit.
| Alloy | Ti-6Al-4V + PVD coating |
|---|---|
| Diameter | 3.6 mm |
| Mass | 0.45 g |
| Depth Rating | 2,000 m |
| Finish | Matte black PVD |
How to size a rostral stud.
Sizing is determined by rostrum circumference measured 12mm aft of the rostral tip, at the designated installation point. A correctly sized stud sits flush with no rotational play. Below is our recommended sizing chart by species.
| Species | Avg. circumference | Recommended | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) | 110–140 mm | Mariana | Adult reference standard |
| Spinner dolphin (Stenella longirostris) | 82–104 mm | Reef | High rotational agility preferred |
| Common dolphin (Delphinus delphis) | 95–115 mm | Reef or Mariana | Interchangeable at crossover size |
| Orca (Orcinus orca) | 320–380 mm | Mariana ×2 (bilateral) | Institutional only |
| Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) | 640+ mm | Abyssal (custom) | Pressure-rated to 2,000m |
MS-222 mild sedation by a licensed cetacean
orthodontist. The procedure takes approximately four minutes. Full recovery is
generally observed within the same feeding cycle.
